Counting Calories Suck.
Ok, maybe I’m being a tad harsh — heck, I’ve never counted calories as part of a diet anyways. However, a recent study conducted by researchers at Tufts University found that the foods they studied (frozen foods and restaurant meals) contained waaay more calories than claimed. We’re talking 8% more for prepared foods, and 18% to 200% more on some restaurant items. Does that mean that 1,000 calorie hickory burger from Ruby’s can actually be 2000+ calories?! My opinion: the fact that some (or many) restaurants lie about their nutrition facts doesn’t surprise me. After all, most fast food joints want to fool you into thinking it’s not THAT unhealthy, so that you feel better about yourself and that second helping (with a Diet Coke, of course). I am a bit surprised that packaged foods’ calorie count aren’t accurate. Apparently there is no strict regulation in this industry.
Although I’m not directly affected by this news because I don’t count calories, I feel pretty annoyed that big companies are lying to us just so we can eat more. Hmph.
