Fecal bacteria in soda?! I told you soda was bad for you!
Looks like it’s not just the generous amounts of sugar in soda that makes it bad for you. A recent investigation of 30 soda fountain machines in Roanoke Valley, Virginia found alarming amounts of bacteria spewing (or “squirting” as the article graphically describes) out of these fountains into our XXL plastic cups. Oh no, it’s not just your average, albeit dangerous, e. coli type, but a specific fecal kind called coliform bacteria. And lots of it too. 70% of the samples contained bacteria, which 48% contained the coliform type. YUMMY.
I am, of course, disgusted. But actually, not too surprised. Do you recall the investigations done a couple years back on “dirty” lemons. Yeah, it’s like that but grosser. It’s not just the fecal -laden hands of restaurant employees that contribute to your mystery ingredient beverage but think about the all of the customers fetching drinks day in and day out (you’d think people would know how to properly wipe their butts and at least wash afterward). Not to mention the realistic possibility that restaurant owners/employees don’t ever wash the tubing in the machines.

After this bit of news, will you stop drinking from the fountain?
